Community Beautification Grant Calendar

The central activity of Sullivan Renaissance is a two-phase community grant program that runs from March through August in Sullivan County, NY. This year's community program dates are as follows:

  • Grant Applications available online Wednesday, February 1, 2012
  • Program launched at Annual Conference on Saturday, March 10, 2012
  • Applications due on Wednesday, March 21, 2012
  • Grants will be awarded Thursday, April 19, 2012
  • Projects must be completed by Monday, August 6, 2012
  • Second round grants announced on Monday, August 13, 2012
  • Winning Projects Tour, Wednesday, September 8, 2012

Beautification and Community Development Grants

Sullivan Renaissance reserves the right to redirect category placement among our various grant programs.

Category A includes the following types of single-element projects: welcome sign, small garden, sign replacement

Category A Criteria

Category A includes the following types of single-element projects:

  • New welcome signs or sign replacement projects
  • Small public gardens or community parks
  • Street-wide beautification such as planters, banners and/or trash receptacles

Typically these are new projects at a single location.  This category is a good place for new groups to begin, as well as for simple projects in small communities.

Category B

Category B Criteria

Category B includes the following types of multi-element projects:

  • Large public gardens or community park projects
  • Exterior renovations or facade projects
  • Roadside beautification
Typically these projects include multiple elements at a single location. Groups may also make significant improvements to previously funded projects. However, the grant cannot be used to replace an existing funding source or program. Groups that engage in these projects are generally more experienced and self-directed.

Category C Criteria

Category C includes the following community-wide projects:

  • Downtown revitalization projects
  • Enhancements at multiple locations
  • Part of a long range vision
Typically these projects incorporate beautification as part of a long-term community strategy. Groups that engage in these projects are generally experienced and have a more formal organizational structure.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:

Applicants are also eligible to apply for assistance from a paid gardening intern. A separate application is required, and interns will be assigned based on need, project scope and supervisory capacity.
