Sullivan Renaissance partners with NYSERDA
Youth participation is an important aspect of Sullivan Renaissance; so much so that it is a requirement for grant recipients. Sullivan Renaissance believes that youth can serve as excellent volunteers when given the support and opportunity to do so.
What began as a basic grant requirement has evolved into giving youth a real experience; letting them see that their efforts make a difference and how they are part of something bigger then themselves. In partnership with the Center for Workforce Development, Sullivan Renaissance now offers the Gardening Internship and Youth Development Program "Change is a Relay".
The program is based on the premise that change doesn’t happen with one person or even one generation. It is constant, fluid and transcends all generations. The goal of the program is to give young people a positive experience and allow them to see that their voice matters and they have the ability and the power to make a difference. As volunteers and future community leaders they are able to gain valuable experience by participating in the betterment of their communities.
