Awards & Programs

In addition to our core beautification program, Sullivan Renaissance recognizes community efforts through special awards.  These are given in various categories for projects that have demonstrated excellence in addressing issues such as historic preservation or environmental stewardship. Sullivan Renaissance also funds a variety of special programs to meet needs identified by our communities.  These range from scholarships and internships for youth to grants for municipalities and seasonal visitors.

Get an Application

Golden Feather Award

This $50,000 grant is made possible by NYS Assembly Member Aileen Gunther. It goes to the Category C community that exhibits the highest levels of excellence in all aspects of the project. This grant must be used for a capital (bricks and mortar) expense.

Awards for the Following Outstanding Efforts are Eligible in Each Category
  • Environmental Stewardship Award

    Grants of $1000 may be awarded to Renaissance communities that address an environmental issue and/or establish a sense of environmental stewardship. The application is due with the completed binder on August 6.

  • Historic Preservation Award

    Grants of $1000 may be awarded to Renaissance communities that address an historic issue and/or element. The application is due with the completed binder on August 6.

  • Project Maintenance Award

    Grants of $1000 may be awarded to Renaissance communities that address and implement project maintenance. The judges will make their determination after visiting the project sites.

  • Showing of Flowers Award

    Grants of $1000 may be awarded to Renaissance communities that have a spring or summer showing of flowers. Communities interested in competing for this award need to include the appropriate photos in their binders. The judges will make their determination after visiting the project sites.

    Co-sponsored with the Sullivan County Board of Realtors, this program recognizes homeowners and businesses in Sullivan County that improve their property in ways that enhance their community. Sullivan Renaissance gives a special $2000 grant to recognize the best municipal or public building project.

Get an Application Programs

Mini Grant

Sullivan Renaissance offers a limited number of $200 grants to communities that would like to "get their feet wet" or participate at a "mini" level by planting flowers, removing debris and sprucing up. This is a reimbursement program.

Municipal Cleanup Program

Sullivan Renaissance offers a limited number of matching grants to municipalities to take down unsightly buildings or cleanup roadsides. The tipping fees are waived by Sullivan County Government. Municipalities may use in-kind services, private and/or foundation funds and other sources of revenue for the match.

Seasonal Community Demonstration Project

Sullivan Renaissance will make available a limited number of matching grants to bungalow colonies, summer camps and other seasonal businesses for projects to improve the appearance of their property.

There are many opportunities for young people throughout Sullivan County to be part of changing their community. Sullivan Renaissance is pleased to offer programs that engage youth to make a difference! Follow link above for a summary of youth opportunities.

Spruce up Your School Grounds

A limited number of grants are available to classes or youth groups for small projects at their school or in their community. A workshop on volunteerism is available to meet the needs of any youth group. Additional recognition grants will be awarded in August.

Youth Internship Program – Categories B and C

In an effort to support the work of Renaissance groups, Sullivan Renaissance is collaborating with the Center for Workforce Development and Sullivan County BOCES to offer a youth gardening internship for Categories B and C projects. The program will work with projects and volunteers to assist with gardening and help ensure that are an abundance of flowers. Participating Category B and C groups may hire a youth at least 16 years old to help with the watering and gardening of their Renaissance project.

SCCC Foundation - Sullivan Renaissance Scholarship

The Sullivan County Community College Foundation will award scholarships to individuals involved in a 2007 Sullivan Renaissance project in their community. Scholarships are available to June 2007 graduates of a Sullivan County high school and/or an adult resident of the county planning to attend SCCC in the fall. Applicants must be participants in a 2007 project.

Sullivan Renaissance Scholarship

Sullivan Renaissance is pleased to make available a limited number of scholarships to volunteers who have made a significant contribution to a Renaissance project. These scholarships are available to the college of your choice. Scholarship funds will be released to recipients’ college financial office.
