SCCC OFFERS RENAISSANCE SCHOLARSHIPS

Three Community Volunteers are Eligible for Assistance

August 2, 2005

[LOCH SHELDRAKE] – It’s not too late to volunteer to help on a Sullivan Renaissance project and to apply for a scholarship to Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) as a Renaissance volunteer.

Up to three scholarships may be awarded.  A $1500 scholarship is available to a full-time student, and two $750 awards to part-time students who have been out of high school for over one year and are enrolled for a minimum of six credits.

Applicants must be involved in a 2005 project in the community and supply a letter of recommendation from a Sullivan Renaissance group leader.  They must also submit a 250-word essay asking “How have I, as a member of my community, been part of the Sullivan Renaissance?” or a photographic portfolio or a video of their participation in the project.

Communities have been hard at work on 42 projects since grants were awarded in March.  Many can still use help before judging on August 13.  For a list of the groups and projects call Sullivan Renaissance at 845-295-2445.

For an application and information about the scholarship, call SCCC Foundation Office in Loch Sheldrake at 845-434-5750 x 4327.

Sullivan Renaissance is a project of the Beaverkill Foundation with support from the Gerry Foundation.
