PRIVATE GARDENS OPEN TO PUBLIC

Bicentennial Garden Tour on Saturday, July 11

June 24, 2009

SULLIVAN COUNTY – Dave Forshay’s garden called “Terry’s Passion” in Willowemoc and Stuart Salenger’s tropical gardens of Philwold in Forestburgh are two of the exclusive and private gardens that will open for public viewing as part of the Bicentennial Garden Tour on Saturday, July 11.  The tour is sponsored by SullivanArc and Sullivan Renaissance to benefit the SullivanArc Horticultural Program.

There are 12 major gardens to visit, along with several interesting stops along the way.  Individuals may follow a suggested route or select their own – visiting as many or as few gardens as they prefer and time allows.

All of the gardens will be open for visits between 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  A wine and cheese reception follows the tour at the Catskill Regional Medical Center’s “Woodland Wildings Garden Memorial” in Harris.

Garden tour tickets are available on a first come, first served basis.  Cost is $30 per person ($25 for senior citizens).  To reserve tickets or for more information, contact SullivanArc at 845-796-1350 ext. 1003.  Reservations are not secure until payment has been received.

The actual ticket is a Garden Tour Guide with a map and address listing each of the gardens.  These will be available on the day of the event between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon at these locations:

  • Stephenson’s Garden Center, Route 52, Liberty
  • Catskill Harvest Market, Route 52 and Ferndale-Loomis Road, Liberty
  • Cutting Garden, Route 52 Youngsville
  • Monticello Greenhouse, East Broadway, Monticello – near SullivanArc (starting point for van transportation)

A 12-person van will be available to transport individuals who do not wish to drive themselves.  It will depart at 10:00 a.m. from the Monticello ticket location and visit select gardens along a prescribed route.  Cost of these tickets is $45 per person ($40 for senior citizens).

SullivanArc is a not-for-profit agency dedicated to providing support and services to over 800 individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and to their families.  Sullivan Renaissance is a beautification and community development program principally funded by the Gerry Foundation with additional funding secured by NYS Senator John J. Bonacic and Assemblywoman Aileen M. Gunther.
