‘PRESERVING LOCAL HISTORY’

Bicentennial Seminar on July 8 at Museum in Hurleyville

[HURLEYVILLE] – A “Preserving Local History" seminar will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sullivan County Museum, 265 Main Street in Hurleyville, co-sponsored by Sullivan County Bicentennial Committee, Sullivan County Historical Society and Sullivan Renaissance.

This presentation by Erin Tobin of the Preservation League of New York State will include:

  • A brief overview of the Preservation League, its mission and programs
  • How to get a site listed on the State or National Register of Historic Places
  • Advantages (including financial incentives) of listing and difference between the registers
  • What is “historic” and how buildings can be local landmarks
  • Overview of the state’s “Certified Local Government Program” for historic preservation

Sullivan Renaissance is a beautification and community development program principally funded by the Gerry Foundation.  Additional funding has been secured by NYS Senator John J.
