‘IT’S SHOWTIME!’ AT THE WINTER FORUM

Sullivan Renaissance 2006 Grant Applications Available

January 23, 2006

[LIBERTY] – “It’s Showtime” at the 10th Annual Winter Forum on Saturday, February 11 at the CVI Center in Ferndale.  A “sense of spring” expo will bloom with flowers and exhibits showcasing a variety of area businesses and volunteer organizations helpful to Sullivan Renaissance communities.

Details of the Sullivan Renaissance 2006 grant program will be announced and applications will be available.

The forum and expo open at 8:00 a.m. with registration.  A coffee bar and light breakfast will be available.  Culinary students from the Delaware Valley Job Corps Center will help serve.

George L Cooke, Sullivan County Clerk and long-time organizer of the countywide litter pluck program, will deliver the keynote address.  A dedicated citizen himself, he is sure to inspire new and veteran volunteers with a glance back and a look forward at Sullivan County.

Workshops will include: “Renaissance 101 – For Beginners,” “Planning Your Garden – Right Plant, Right Place,” “YOUth Can Make A Difference,” “Sullivan 2020 Toolbox – How to Make it Work for You,” “Your Friends and Allies – Code Enforcement and Property Assessment,”  “Volunteers – Finding Them and Keeping Them.”  Workshops are designed to provide tools for volunteers to take back to their own communities.

The forum also features a poster contest with entries from area high school students.  Attendees will select the winning posters that increase awareness of the cleanup efforts going on in Sullivan County and help inspire the public to participate.

The annual Sullivan First Achievement Awards will be presented to individuals, businesses and organizations that demonstrate a commitment to improving the appearance of Sullivan County.

Sullivan Renaissance is designed to provide communities with seed money to compete in a beautification contest, while building a sense of pride and spirit in the community.  Sullivan Renaissance is a program of the Beaverkill Foundation with support from the Gerry Foundation.

Space is limited, pre-registration is necessary.  For more information, call 845-295-2445.
