SIGN UP EARLY FOR THE 2013 MERCHANT DISCOUNT PROGRAM

Help Communities Do More and Keep the Money Local

October 19, 2012

[SULLIVAN COUNTY] – Local businesses that want to participate in the 2013 Sullivan Renaissance Merchant Discount Program are encouraged to sign up early. Online forms are available by visiting the Sullivan Renaissance website at www.sullivanrenaissance.org.

The program is a collaborative effort between Sullivan Renaissance and the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce. Here’s how it works. Businesses offer discounts on products and services that community volunteers use to clean up and beautify their neighborhoods – so the funds can go further and are spent locally. The discounts are only given to community projects receiving grants from Sullivan Renaissance.

Various community organizations identify projects they can do and then apply for funding assistance from Sullivan Renaissance. Grants are awarded in April and projects completed by August. Community groups are each given a special discount card to show to participating businesses.

Each merchant sets his or her own discount rate – typically from 10% to 20% – and the list of participants is given to community organizations and posted on the Sullivan Renaissance website. Over 70 local businesses offered discounts in 2012.

“We know that beautification efforts increase tourism and boost economic development,” said Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Terri Ward, “So this is a practical way that local businesses can make their communities look more attractive, while helping to increase their own revenues.”

For information about how to participate, interested businesses can contact the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce at 845-791-4200 or Sullivan Renaissance at 845-295-2452. Businesses do not need to be Chamber members to participate.

Sullivan Renaissance is a beautification and community development program principally funded by the Gerry Foundation. Communities that want more information about Sullivan Renaissance programs should call 845-295-2445 or go to www.sullivanrenaissance.org.
