Volunteers Clean-up and Plant in Many Communities

May 28, 2013

FERNDALE – Residents throughout Sullivan County will be caring for public spaces this Saturday, June 1 as clean-up and planting activities are scheduled in many communities.  New volunteers are invited to donate one hour of their time to help.

“Some people don’t realize that most of the public gardens we enjoy in Sullivan County are maintained by volunteers,” said Sullivan Renaissance Volunteer Coordinator Cara Kowalski, “If everyone gives just an hour of their time, the work will be easy and the camaraderie high.”

No experience is necessary, but volunteers should bring gloves and tools if they have them.

  • Hurleyville-Sullivan First Renaissance: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Volunteers will be planting in barrels and flower beds around Fireman’s Park in Hurleyville.  The group will also work on Sunday, June 2nd at the same time and place.
  • Livingston Manor Renaissance: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Meet at Terry’s Garden on DeBruce Road, just off the Exit 96 ramp in Livingston Manor (look for the banner).
  • Lumberland Parks and Recreation: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Pick your park! The group will be working at Circle Park in Glen Spey and at the Pond Eddy Park.  Bring tools if you have them!  Lunch will be provided.
  • Woodridge Renaissance: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Meet at the entrance to Krieger Park on Greenfield Road.  The group will be building stone flower beds in the park.  Lunch will be served.
  • Jeffersonville JEMS Celebrate “Jeffersonville Matters Day!”: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Meet at the Clock Garden on Main Street and celebrate Jeffersonville with the JEMS beautification group.  Free food!  Activities for all ages!  Chalk art!  Bring your gardening questions and meet the JEMS gardening crew.
