AWARDS CEREMONY

This Monday, August 12 at SUNY Sullivan

August 7, 2013

[LOCH SHELDRAKE] – The public is invited to honor the volunteers whose dedication and hard work has improved communities throughout Sullivan County at the 2013 Sullivan Renaissance Awards Ceremony this Monday, August 12.  The event is being held in the Seelig Theater at SUNY Sullivan in Loch Sheldrake.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with light refreshments; the program begins at 6:45 p.m.

Community organizations are now finishing their work at dozens of projects throughout Sullivan County.  To find out how to get involved with a group in your community, call Sullivan Renaissance at 845-295-2445.

The Awards Ceremony will recognize all of this year’s projects and award additional grants between $1000 and $25,000 to those judged the most successful in completing their beautification efforts.  The winner of a new contest for seasonal communities will receive the $10,000 Community Mitzvah Award.

Scholarships for Sullivan Renaissance volunteers will be announced by the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan Counties, and the SUNY Sullivan Foundation.  Members of the new Sullivan Renaissance Volunteers Corps will be recognized, as will young people who participated in the intern leadership program.

A memorial tribute to Ted Blowes and Tim Stoddard – long-time Sullivan Renaissance judges who died during the last year – will also be part of the ceremony.

Sullivan Renaissance is a beautification and community development program principally funded by the Gerry Foundation.  Sponsors include Bold Gold Media Group/Thunder 102, Country Yossi Productions, FisherMears Associates, Kristt Company, Large Media, Robert Green Dealerships, Sullivan County Democrat, The River Reporter, Thompson Sanitation, and WSUL/WVOS.
