Go from a Brown Thumb to a Green Thumb in Three Easy Classes

March 13, 2014

[FERNDALE] – The first of three free hands-on instructional trainings to teach the public about gardening will be held on Wednesday, April 2.  The classes will be taught by Sullivan County Master Gardener Volunteers at the Gerald Skoda Extension Education Center in Ferndale.

“Soil, Water & Sun!” is on April 2; “Weeds, Shoots & Flowers!” on May 7; and “Designing, Digging & Delegating!” on June 4.

All classes will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesdays at Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Sullivan County in the teaching garden located at 64 Ferndale-Loomis Road in Liberty.

Sullivan Renaissance and CCE are holding the trainings to assist individuals who want to volunteer but aren’t sure how to help with community gardens in their hometowns.

Attendees will learn the basics of caring for a garden from start to finish – and be able to roll up their sleeves to work in their own gardens and to help at nearby community projects.  Those who successfully complete all three classes will receive a completion certificate and a special gift from Sullivan Renaissance.

Sullivan Renaissance will announce funding for gardening projects in communities throughout Sullivan County on April 24.  Each of the organizations receiving a grant will rely entirely on volunteer support to meet its goals.  All of them can use additional help.

Training space is limited and pre-registration is requested for all three classes.  Refreshments will be provided.  For more information or to register, contact Sullivan Renaissance at 845-295-2445 or
