DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR SCCC RENAISSANCE SCHOLARSHIPS

Volunteers are Eligible for Full and Part-Time Assistance

July 18, 2007

[LOCH SHELDRAKE] – The application deadline for Renaissance Scholarships to Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) has been extended to Monday, August 6.  Applicants must be involved as a volunteer in a 2007 Sullivan Renaissance project.

Those applying should include a letter of recommendation from the leader of the Sullivan Renaissance group and answer the question “How have I, as a member of my community, been part of the Sullivan Renaissance?” (250 words) or submit a photographic portfolio or a video of their participation in the project.

Scholarships of $1500 are available for full-time students.  Part-time students who have been out of high school for more than a year and are enrolled for a minimum of six credits may apply for a $750 award.  Several scholarships are awarded each year.

Communities have been hard at work on 46 projects since grants were awarded in March.  Many can still use help before judging on August 11.  For a list of the groups and projects call Sullivan Renaissance at 845-295-2445.

For an application and information about the scholarship, call SCCC Foundation Office in Loch Sheldrake at 845-434-5750 x 4479.  Applications are also available at www.sullivanrenaissance.org/.

Sullivan Renaissance is a beautification and community development program principally funded by the Gerry Foundation.  Youth participation is supported in part with a grant from the Louis R. Cappelli Foundation.  Additional funding has been secured by NYS Senator John J. Bonacic and Assemblywoman Aileen M. Gunther.
