Saturday
Stream Clean-Up
9am
Swan Lake Country Store
Swan Lake Renaissance, in collaboration with the Sullivan County Department of Planning and Environmental Management and Sullivan County Water and Conservation, will conduct a stream cleaning on Saturday, May 17. Volunteers are needed and requested to meet at the Swan Lake Country Store at 9 AM.
Nancy Levine, Swan Lake Renaissance’s President, says: “Over the last couple of years we have done a lot to improve the appearance of SwanLake, but we never addressed the litter that has accumulated alongside the stream below the dam. It was almost like a ‘before & after’ picture all in the same frame: pretty around the bridge but quite gritty below. Well, this year we have no excuses any more, we have to get this done.” SullivanCounty’s stream clean-up program is a new initiative to protect local water sources by improving the conditions alongside many streams in SullivanCounty.
The stream cleaning will be Part 2 of Swan Lake’s spring clean-up: Swan Lake Renaissance volunteers, members of the Swan Lake Fire Department, and residents of Daytop Swan Lake and Abbott House spent the weekend of April 26 and 27 cleaning the local roads, collecting embarrassing amounts of fast food containers and wrapping materials. Swan Lake Renaissance is asking that all residents and visitors help with keeping SwanLake clean by disposing of litter properly; and by picking up around their houses, camps, and bungalows.
Gloves for the May 17 clean-up work in SwanLake will be provided. Each participant will also receive a T-shirt. Volunteers are asked to call 845-292-5553 to sign-up.
Swan Lake Renaissance is also looking for volunteers to adopt a garden in SwanLake. Volunteers would be responsible for weeding, deadheading, fertilizing, and keeping the garden looking good! For more information, call Nancy Levine at 845-292-5553.
